Summary: STORY NOW COMPLETE! What was Minerva McGonagall like as a child? Probably quite different from the dedicated, acid-tongued teacher of JK Rowling's books. She surely had her loves and hates, adventures and fears and triumphs just like any teen. We know that she came of age during a great Muggle war and the depredations of the evil wizard Grindelwald, a shadowy figure who ruined countless lives. Minerva fought her battles with the help of people who would be important to Harry Potter's own development. These would cross her path as students like herself or teachers of great influence. Her teachers included Albus Dumbledore, Armando Dippet, a very much alive Professor Binns, and Horace Slughorn, her classmates Barty Crouch, Poppy Pomfrey, Hagrid, various Longbottoms, Macnairs and Macmillans--and Tom Riddle.

Summary: After Professor Dumbledore's death, Hermione has stayed at Hogwarts to research spells the trio might need in their quest to destroy the Horcruxes. There, she receives a visit from the most unlikely of persons: the ghost of Sirius Black. He has grave news. The spirit of Dumbledore has not been allowed to cross into the Beyond, and only a living witch or wizard can help him.

This story comes out of a set of most intriguing writing challenges on The Sugar Quill, called collectively, Hermione's Inferno. The setting and most of the characters are Jo Rowling's. Thanks to her for letting us all bend them to our artistic needs.

In the first chapters of this book, I hope to delve further into some incompletely explained characters and theories of JKR's world of magic. To facilitate this, the story will be from many different POVs, a là George RR Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice.

Summary: It is natural for an orphan to ask questions about his parentage. Tom, powerful young wizard, finding his magic inadequate to slake his curiosity, must venture into the mundane world to get the answers he craves, answers that he will not much like.

The song is "Tin Angel" by Joanie Mitchell from her album Clouds. The milieu, of course is JK Rowling's. They are both my idols, strong, talented women, unafraid to expose their deepest feelings in music, prose, or poetry.
